HOW IT WORKS
Cupping therapy uses suction cups to enhance blood flow, reduce muscle tension, and alleviate pain followed by our scraping tools to relieve muscle soreness and inflammation in 45 minutes.
Cupping – A Physical Therapy Approach:
Cupping is a therapeutic technique in physical therapy that involves using silicone, plastic, or glass cups to create suction on areas of soft tissue dysfunction. This suction helps to loosen scar tissue adhesions, enhance blood and lymphatic circulation, remove lactic acid and other waste products, and promote tissue healing, recovery, and improved function.
Cupping can be performed in two ways:
- Static cupping: The cups remain stationary on specific spots for a few minutes.
- Dynamic cupping: The cups are moved along the length of a muscle to address a larger area, supporting enhanced muscle healing and function.
It’s common for cupping to leave temporary red marks on the skin, which are a normal response to the treatment.
Muscle Scraping in Physical Therapy:
You may have heard of techniques like Gua Sha, the Graston Technique®, or Hawk Grips®, which are popular methods of muscle scraping. These approaches fall under Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM), a therapy that uses medical-grade stainless steel tools to identify and address soft tissue issues, such as scar tissue, adhesions, and fascial restrictions.
During a scraping session, your skilled physical therapist will use these tools to target stressed muscles, tendons, and ligaments. The treatment promotes better circulation, accelerates recovery, and helps restore tissue length and function. It’s common for scraping to leave temporary red marks or bruising on the skin—this is a natural part of the healing process.
