Peptides have become one of the biggest conversations in wellness, recovery, longevity, fitness, and beauty. If you spend any time on social media, you’ve probably seen names like GHK-Cu, BPC-157, MOTS-c, TB-500, and RETA showing up again and again.
At Kori Kryotherapy, we’ve received more questions about peptides and research compounds, so we partnered with Glow Aminos and Flawless Compounds to give our community a place to explore the products they’re already hearing about.
But before jumping into what’s popular, it’s important to understand that popular does not always mean FDA-approved or proven for a particular medical use. Some peptides have established uses, while many compounds discussed online remain investigational or are marketed for research purposes.
So, what is everyone talking about?
What Are Peptides?
Peptides are short chains of amino acids—the same basic building blocks that make up proteins.
Our bodies naturally produce many different peptides, where they can act as signaling molecules involved in a variety of biological processes.
Researchers have also developed and studied synthetic peptides for applications ranging from medicine and metabolism to skin care and cellular research.
That growing research—combined with social media, longevity culture, fitness, and the popularity of GLP-1 medications—has brought peptides into the mainstream conversation.
GHK-Cu: The Beauty & Skin Favorite
GHK-Cu, commonly called a copper peptide, may be one of the most recognizable peptides in the beauty and skin-care world.
It is a naturally occurring copper-binding peptide that has been studied in connection with processes involving skin and tissue.
Much of the interest surrounding GHK-Cu centers on:
- Skin appearance
- Collagen-related processes
- Hair and scalp research
- Tissue-related research
- Cellular signaling
Copper peptides are also found in a variety of topical cosmetic products, which has helped make GHK-Cu especially popular among people interested in beauty, skin care, and healthy aging.
BPC-157: One of the Most Talked-About Recovery Peptides
Search for peptides and recovery and you’re almost guaranteed to encounter BPC-157.
BPC-157 is an experimental peptide that has attracted attention because of research involving tissue and gastrointestinal processes.
Online discussions commonly associate it with recovery, which has made it especially popular in fitness, sports, and wellness communities.
However, it’s important to distinguish between early or preclinical research and established human medical benefits.
BPC-157 is not an FDA-approved medication, and research into its safety and effectiveness in humans remains limited.
BPC-157 + TB-500
You may also see BPC-157 and TB-500 offered or discussed together.
TB-500 is related to research involving thymosin beta-4, a naturally occurring peptide involved in several biological processes.
Because both compounds are frequently discussed within recovery communities, the combination has become especially recognizable online.
That popularity doesn’t mean the combination has been established as a safe or approved recovery treatment.
It’s another example of why it’s important to separate:
“This compound is being researched”
from:
“This compound is clinically proven and approved for this purpose.”
MOTS-c: The Mitochondrial Peptide
Another name gaining attention is MOTS-c.
MOTS-c is particularly interesting because it is considered a mitochondrial-derived peptide.
Mitochondria play an important role in how our cells produce and manage energy, which is why MOTS-c has attracted research interest in areas involving:
- Metabolism
- Cellular energy
- Aging
- Exercise physiology
- Metabolic health
That has naturally made MOTS-c a popular topic within longevity, performance, and biohacking communities.
Research is still developing, however, so many of the claims you may see online go beyond what has been firmly established in human clinical research.
RETA: Why Everyone Is Talking About Retatrutide
If there is one name that has exploded in popularity, it’s Retatrutide, often shortened online to RETA.
Retatrutide is an investigational compound being studied as a triple receptor agonist, affecting pathways involving GLP-1, GIP, and glucagon receptors.
Because GLP-1 medications have already received enormous attention, research involving retatrutide has generated considerable interest.
However, there is an especially important distinction here:
Retatrutide is currently investigational and is not an FDA-approved medication.
If you see RETA products sold online, that is not the same thing as receiving an approved prescription medication from a licensed pharmacy.
Why Are Peptides Suddenly Everywhere?
Peptides themselves aren’t new.
What has changed is public awareness.
Several trends have collided at the same time:
- Growing interest in longevity
- GLP-1 medications
- Fitness and recovery culture
- Biohacking
- Skin-care innovation
- Social media
- Increased discussion of metabolic health
- Greater consumer access to scientific information
That creates excitement, but it can also create confusion.
A TikTok video saying a compound is “amazing for recovery” doesn’t carry the same weight as controlled human clinical research.
That’s why we encourage people to remain curious while also paying attention to the quality of the evidence.
What Should You Look for When Researching Peptides?
Before purchasing or researching any compound, look beyond the marketing.
Some things worth investigating include:
- Whether human clinical studies exist
- Whether the compound is FDA-approved
- What stage of research it is currently in
- Published scientific evidence
- Product testing documentation
- Purity and identity testing
- Transparent labeling
- Whether claims sound realistic or exaggerated
One of the biggest red flags in this industry is a company promising that one compound will somehow solve everything.
Science is rarely that simple.
